Rain, mud and Lizzie

May 25, 2011

What may sound like a good idea may not actually be that great.

We have been getting a fair amount of rain recently.  As a matter of fact, we received about 1” yesterday afternoon.  The pastures are greening up nicely.  The road and the driveway are pretty muddy.  The cars are covered with mud.  But, the rain has been beneficial to the livestock.

I picked up the twins at the bus stop yesterday afternoon and headed home.  We drove the truck through the deepest puddles trying to make some really big splashes.  It was really fun.  Given my history of a couple of mishaps involving my considerable mud driving skills, I was driving quite courageously.  You know where this is going, don’t you?

Nope, we arrived home without incident.  Ivy wasn’t with me.  I knew the other mishaps weren’t anything that I was responsible for.

We arrived home and went into the house.  The twins asked for a snack.  Boy Twin had homework.  Two and a half days of school left and he has homework.  (I’m not kidding)  Seems he didn’t get it all finished.  (I just realized I have at least ten more years of homework)

I told the twins I was going outside to check on the yaks and llamas.  Just like every other day.  I was outside for about twenty minutes.  When I got back to the house I was greeted by our 4-1/2 month old , brown Great Pyrenees puppy, Lizzie.  Yep, the puppy that was snow white when I went outside was now brown, MUD brown.

We have carpet in our house.  Light beige carpet.  Well, it was light beige when I went to check on the yaks and llamas.  Now we have brown carpet, MUD brown carpet.

I’m in the house now, with my MUD brown puppy and my MUD brown carpet.  No one else is around.  No other dog is in the house.  I don't want to believe what I'm seeing.

Me:  Hey, guys!

Girl Twin (after 30 seconds):  Yeah, Monner

Me:  What happened?

Girl Twin:  What do you mean?  (you gotta love that)

Me:  The mud

Girl Twin:  Oh, Lizzie was outside rolling in a mud puddle, so we brought her in.

Boy Twin:  Then we took the rest of the dogs out to play

Me:  Good idea!

Twins:  Thanks.

These new puppies are really working out.

Our crazy lives!
