The Flu and 2017

Well, 2016 is gone and 2017 is here. So far I’m not very impressed with the new year. I have the flu.

Last November, my doctor convinced me I should be getting a flu shot. Not my regular doctor, but the doctor I got assigned when I didn’t get to keep my regular doctor. OK, it wasn’t like what your thinking. My regular doctor retired. Fooled you, didn’t I?

My new doctor is actually my second attempt at finding a replacement doctor. My first replacement doctor and I didn’t really see eye to eye. Literally! He was only five feet tall. Elaine thought he bought his clothes in the boy’s department. He had red hair. When I closed my eyes I could imagine I was talking to a leprechaun.

At one of my appointments with the leprechaun doctor, he told me, “You should consider shaving your beard. Bacteria grows in men’s beards.” The doctor had a beard. I guess it wasn’t a man’s beard, more of a red leprechaun beard.

If you were wondering leprechaun doctor and I are no longer doctor/patient any longer. I was told he took a position at an elderly clinic. Just as well, we weren’t friends.

The doctor I am seeing now is the PA of the doctor that retired. I’m not really comfortable with HER, but I don’t want another leprechaun.

PA: I think you should have a flu shot. Me: I’ve never had one. What do they cost? PA: Most insurance companies will pay for them, you really should get one. Me: It’s never been a problem. PA: You have children, flu shots help keep the flu from spreading through your house. Me: OK, let’s do this.

So here we are, the first day of 2017, and I have the flu. Not just the flu, I have the FLU!

Last night while you guys were having parties with your friends, I was laying on my bed coughing and watching “Good Eats”.

The coughing must have gotten pretty bad. Boy Twin asked from the bottom of the stairs, “Monner, do you think we should take you to the hospital?” I would have accepted his invitation, but I didn’t want to get out of bed.
