Labor Day

Well, looks like we all made it, to the unofficial end of summer 2024. I know this because I watched the trucks pulling camping trailers past my house the last couple of days. Heh, amateurs! I don't mind the tent guys so much, but the guys with two bedroom trailers with Star Link satellite dishes, microwaves, and five or six televisions, you aren't camping. You just moved out of your house for the weekend.

My summer has been over for a while. It pretty well ended when the doctor told me I would need spine surgery.

Summer started out so great. I/we bought three new yaks and two new puppies. Looking back that may or may not have been such good ideas. The puppies have found that they have forty acres to run on and each day they try to go just a little farther. Normally, that wouldn't be a problem except I'm good for only one hundred baby steps before the pain kicks my (construction language). I walk to my side-by-side OHV and chase them down. It's a game for them as they like riding home in the side-by-side.

The yaks might be the bigger problem. Twice this past week, neighbors have called Elaine to inform her our yaks are in the road. Not all of them, just the two youngest yaks. The yaks have found a spot in the fence that is big enough to slide through. Not the big ones, just the young ones. I need Boy Twin to help me close the small hole in the fence. He has a new motorcycle, it might be a while before I see him. Any other summer it would be something I could handle myself. Or I could let the yaks get bigger, too big for the hole. They don't get out every day, plus they will go back to the pasture by themselves. In a couple of months I could "fix" the fence myself. Time will fix this problem in numerous ways.

Officially, the summer is not over. Coincidentally, it ends on or about the day I have my surgery. That pleases me immensely. I will have Indian summer to complete some of the things I need to get done before the snow flies. I need to secure enough hay for the yaks to feed during the winter. The doctors will tell me I can't lift, bend, or twist, (been here before) but I can move hay with the tractor, plus Boy Twin will surely be here by then.

I've been "battling" with the doctors over pain meds while I am waiting for surgery. It seems the government is involved with my "right to choose" (Woah, almost got political there) which pain meds are available to me. My cousin suggested I try "Gummi bears". I've seen those two football players on the television commercial and how happy they are with "Gummi bears". Who wouldn't want to try them? Again coincidentally, earlier in the day I was in the membership store, the one that is going to raise membership fees. (Almost got political again) I saw "Gummi Bears" on the shelf. These weren't the football player's "Gummies, These Gummies were sprinkled with TAJIN (Mexican spice). The packaging said mild and sweet. They were sweet but in my opinion firecracker hot. I've got a big bag that I guess I bought for Boy Twin. I'm not very good at "Gummi Bears"

Happy Labor Day
