A Bad Day

We have watched our “neighborhood” grow in the two decades Elaine and I have lived here. Our “new” neighbors include retired police and firemen, retired military, but we realize not all the newbies are retired.
For the last year I have been watching the guy in the red pickup. I guess the reason I have been watching him is because he drives by our house at least twice a day. He never waves, as a matter of fact he never looks at me. Just speeds by. He has toolboxes and usually a dog in the red pickup truck. Makes me think he is involved in construction. Just a guess.
I know he lives a couple miles up the road in a shed. Not a tiny house, a shed. No water, no electricity. Just a ten foot by twelve foot shed.
Elaine and I were returning from town when we noticed a red pickup truck sitting in the ditch adjacent to our property. Upon closer observation it was obvious the truck had problems. The windshield was shattered, the front end of the truck was smashed beyond recogition. Our unfriendly neighbor was sitting in the truck bleeding from his head and shoulder.
In the area where the truck was parked cell service is non-existent. Elaine stayed with our neighbor while I went up the road to use the cell phone.
When you are having a bad day sometimes they only get worse. This guy’s dog had been bitten by a rattlesnake and our neighbor was headed to town to save his dog. The neighbor lost control of the red pickup truck and rolled the truck twice (according to the state patrol).
I wouldn’t be surprised if our neighbor moves out of the neighborhood. Who could blame him. I’ve always said “sometimes you get the bear (or rattlesnake), sometimes the bear (or rattlesnake) gets you.”
God Bless, Love ya, drive safely
Our crazy lives!
