Ouch! (Construction language)

There are many reasons have “pet” dogs. None bigger than Elaine wants/needs something to cuddle with on the couch. No, I won’t cuddle, I like my space.

We have dogs to “walk”, forcing Elaine and I to get some exercise. We can’t talk about how that worked out.

Dogs are almost a nessesity in a rural setting. They become the first line of interaction with the local wildlife. No matter how small the dog and how big the bear/lion/other, the dog will alert the world something is amiss.

For those reasons and maybe a hundred other we have dogs. Our dogs aren’t huge, but they are not small either. They aren’t aggresive, but they don’t like deer near our house. They will chase deer if they have a chance. How far? I don’t really know. I guess until they get tired.

Our dogs like/love to ride in the truck or side-by-side with me. We have developed a habit of “riding along” when I take the side-by-side somewhere. They expect a ride at least once or more a day. They will excitedly run around the side-by-side until I open the door and let them in.

It might be getting out of hand. I opened the door of the house to take the dogs on a ride. They were excited to be going. So excited, they were’t waiting for me. They ran out the door with a purpose. Sadly, the purpose was to hit me from behind and knock me down the deck stairs and into the side-by-side.

This is not the place to talk about how loud or how much (construction language) I used, but I’m sure the neighbors enjoyed it. Elaine was quick with Band-aids and antiseptic cream so life went on.

They say dogs learn quickly and develop habits. The very next night, I opened the door to the house. The dogs rushed the door not waiting for me to get outside. They hit me from behind, not down the stairs, but across the deck and into the patio furniture.

Let’s just say, I used a good amount of (constuction language) while I sat there bleeding with sore ribs. Not so suddenly, I realized how old I’ve become. Elaine got the Band-aids ready. Fifty, forty, thirty, twenty years ago this wouldn’t have been a big deal, but this has becoome a habit we need to break.

You know, it’s hard to enjoy dogs when you want to shoot them.

God bless, Love ya, protect your ribs.

Our crazy lives!
