Gordon's Fence
It was a rough week. It’s actually been a rough couple of weeks. Elaine and I found out that Gordon (white- faced) is a jumper. We knew he likes to jump when he greets you after you have been out of his sight for a few seconds.
We found he has perfected his jumping abilities, plus combined it with a new found climbing ability. He has learned to jump on the fence and climb over the top to escape. He has introduced himself to the neighbor’s cattle and horses. The all seemed to get along, however I’m sure the neighbors were not happy.
I wasn’t happy either. Gordon usually went over the fence at first light (dawn) before I have a chance to even get dressed. It became a game. Gordon chases a fox or some deer and I get in the car and go get him. He tires himself out with the chase and is very appreciative for a ride home. I just open the car door, he jumps in and looks at me like he is thinking, “Hey, what’s for breakfast?” At least Goose (Black-face) has no desire to jump and climb.
I know there is a simple solution to make this problem go away. Make the fence taller. I have the knowledge and the skill to make the fence taller. What I don’t have is the desire and the ability to “bend, lift and twist” which might be required. I can bend, lift, and twist, but not if Elaine can see me. Not to mention I pay for it for a couple of days,
I’ve been depending on Boy Twin to help me. That hasn’t worked out so well. He misplaced his phone and I haven’t been able to reach him. Boy Twin might be the only twentyish person on the planet that couldn’t care less where his phone is or even if he has one.
Elaine has offered to help when she can take a break from her real job. You might have heard about Elaine’s current project that must take precedent over Gordon’s fence. Elaine’s company is bringing electricity and WIFI to the Grand Canyon where the Native American tribe built the glass skyway over the canyon. They have electricity nearby, but not enough to recharge all the new electric cars in the area. (I might have dreamed that.)
So, while I am concerned about keeping Gordon away from the neighbor’s livestock; Elaine is concerned about the recharging needs of electric cars one thousand miles away and making sure I don’t “bend, lift, or twist”.
Elaine helps me during her lunch and breaks. Together we have thwarted Gordon. We have used our knowledge and almost no skill. The fence looks exactly like the builder cannot “bend, lift, and twist”.
I’m going to rest today. I might drive over to Boy Twin’s house.
God Bless, Love ya. Don’t buy yarn today. I can’t lift it.
Our crazy lives!
