Halfway

One kid went out on a friend's boat. One kid went camping. One kid stayed home to prepare for school (college) to start. Elaine and I went shopping for trees. Gordon and Goose wanted outside at 3:30 AM.

That's how we spent the 249th birthday of the United States of America. As you can see, everyone celebrated July 4th in their own way. Elaine and I talked about going to the fireworks display put on by the little mountain town up the road. We talked about it but truthfully, we knew we wouldn't go. We have been to the fireworks several times and it is a fantastic display, but if you've seen it several times you've seen it several times.

July 4th was a big deal when I was working. It always meant days off, especially when I was working out of town. It meant I was going home for a least an extended weekend. Now, the cold reality of retirement has set in, every day is an extended weekend. July 4th means the summer is halfway over. I look around at the things I was going to accomplish this summer. That's why I planted trees; it was on the list.

I enjoyed the holiday, spending time with Elaine. She got to take the holiday off with not even a discussion of power poles.

I hope you enjoyed your holiday and start planning for next year and the 250th birthday of the United States.

God bless, Love ya, be careful with fireworks

Thanks for sharing this heartwarming post, Monner. It is nice to be reminded that everyone celebrates July 4th in their own unique way. Speaking of personal journeys, if anyone here is juggling academic work this summer, I just wanted to recommend an affordable dissertation proposal writing service. It is a helpful option for students who want quality support without breaking the bank especially while enjoying these slower, meaningful moments of life.
