Spring Cleaning

If you haven’t noticed, spring has finally arrived. Elaine has noticed and has spent considerable time telling me it is time to get rid of this or that and take said items to her favorite thrift store.

This is not a story about thrift stores or taking items to one. However, it is a story with some long roots that sometimes involve a conversation about thrift stores. For fifty plus years, Elaine has ACCUSED me of being too soft spoken. She might be right, but I don’t see the reason to speak louder when most people aren’t listening anyway.

Over the years, Elaine has been quite concerned that she can’t always hear me. She has turned the situation over to the medical profession for help. I guess her hearing is fine, I’m just too soft spoken. I accept any and all blame.

Elaine and I were having a converation about an upcoming trip to the thrift store. I mentioned it was probably time for me to get rid of the extra tools and stuff I had accumulated over the years. Can you say hoarder?

I explained to Elaine (using my too soft conversational tone) that I have eight ladders in my shed (all different sizes). Most likely I could get rid of six. Mentally, I prepared list of things I should send to an auction, thrift store, or pawn shop.

I was more than happy to share my list with Elaine. I can’t say what happened next, was the result of Elaine being hard of hearing or that I am too soft spoken. I explained to Elaine that I own several electric/battery drills, hammers (many) and fourteen old mostly rotted tarps that I could live without.

Elaine looked at me like she had seen a ghost. The look on her face confused me.

Me: Is there a problem?

Elaine: What are you planning on doing with those?

Me: I’m not sure, maybe just get rid of them.

Elaine: You think you can just get rid of fourteen rotten TEETH!

I’m going to start speaking louder when talking with Elaine. I don’t know of any other way to fix our problem. Maybe I won’t talk at all.

This wasn't really a story about spring cleaning.

God Bless, Love ya, hearing loss can be fixed

Our crazy lives!
