Weeds and More Weeds, plus Grass

It looks like I picked a bad year to get rid of the yaks. I could use the help keeping control of the grass and weeds around the house. It might have been a better idea to have bought more yaks. Complaining about it is doing no good. At least I have something to do every day.

I think I'm working harder in retirement than when I worked in construction. I could make my job mowing easier if I would buy a bigger mower. I have a larger mower picked out. Only one problem with that. Do I really want to spend three thousand dollars to use it from a couple of months this year. I know, I can use it next year, but why not buy it next year. What if next year is a drought year and I don't use it at all.

And then, most weeds have flowers. Some people call them wildflowers, but actually they are flowering weeds. This becomes a problem when your wife says, "I just love those purple flowers, can you mow around them?" I could mow around them, but I don't. I could mow around the white and yellow ones, also, but I won't do that either.

I could cut a bouquet of pretty weed blossoms every day. I really could, but I'm not going to. If it is in the path of the mower, it gets mowed. I learned this from my dad. My dad didn't mow often, and if he did he wouldn't be happy about it. He expected one of his five boys to mow. When he mowed my brothers and I would hurry to get all the toys out of the yard because he would mow them. Baseballs, mitts, UNTIL one of my brothers was working on his bicycle. He forgot he left a screwdriver in the grass. Dad mowed the screwdriver. The screwdriver shot up through the mower ruining the mower dad had bought that summer. I'm pretty sure he didn't mow anything again, come to think of it I don't think he ever mowed the grass again.

I will mow Elaine's "flowers," but I'm pretty sure I won't mow a screwdriver. I am a big believer that I can learn by the mistakes of others.

God Bless, Love ya

Our crazy lives!
