I Didn't Plan to Share, My Deer

My rabbit problem appears to be over. Between the dogs chasing them and me throwing rocks the rabbits have moved on. Now, Elaine and I can enjoy our before bedtime quiet time without the dogs jumping through the window screens. Speaking of enjoyment, I've enjoyed starting a garden this summer. I have a small greenhouse that I have planted tomatoes, herbs, and peppers. I planted everything too late and only the herbs are doing well.

Boy Twin loves hot peppers, the hotter the better. I planted some Carolina Reaper peppers for him outside in the dirt. Rumor has it, they are the hottest peppers in the world. I don't appreciate hot peppers and planted them outside so if the rabbits got them before Boy Twin, it would be no big deal. The rabbits didn't touch them.

Just for grins and giggles, I planted some sweet peppers, a tomato plant, carrots and watermelons with the Carolina Reapers. I have no idea why, but the rabbits left everything alone.

Elaine and I returned home from a trip to town to be greeted by two female deer standing in the garden. They were eating the Carolina Reapers! I wasn't very upset because I hadn't told Boy Twin I was growing them for him. They deer casually walked away when we got out of the car.

The very next night, the dogs went back to their nightly barkfest. I looked out the window and the two female deer were back in the garden, helping themselves to everything this time. I went outside to chase them away, but it was too late my garden is gone.

Hunting season is a couple months away. I know where a hunter with a doe tag can score a couple of already seasoned with Carolina Reaper peppers, carrots and a tomato plant.

My gardening career is over, at least for this summer. I've sold the yaks. I need a new hobby. Fishing? Nah. Paragliding, maybe! Maybe write stories. Nah. Maybe I could climb the Himalayas. I could pick up some new yaks. In the meantime, I've got to get the store. I've got a hankering for green chili and I don't have any peppers.

God Bless, Love ya, fence your gardens

Our crazy lives!
